MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE NEWTOWN PARKS AND RECREATION’S
DOG PARK SUBCOMMITTEE

Subcommittee Members: Kathryn Simonds, Cat Fedorcheck, Ruth Hutchinson, Missy Robinson, Kim Jaeckel, Monica Roberto
  • Post card update: Postcards will be printed/mailed in August to 1,250 addresses. Extra cards will be distributed to local businesses to display on counters. Total cost for printing, fulfillment and postage was approximately $600.  Funds to come out of Dog Park Fund.
  • Newtown Dog Park Budget & Plan. Reggiano estimates we will need to raise $50K to build dog park. Funds break out as follows:
  • Fencing (2 acres, 4’ high; 4 gates; 1 utility space with small fenced off area: $30K (Robinson to get second estimate)
  • Six benches at a cost of $500 each
  • Dog Park Signage, Bulletin Boards, Kiosk: $900
  • 3 Water Fountains for Dogs at $200 each
  • Landscaping: $4K
  • Agility course elements: 2K
  • Maintenance (re-seeding, etc) for next 3 years: $9.5K
  • Dog Park Property Update: Liz Stocker contacted Amy Mangold to confirm that the town  has the deed, but has not yet accepted it because the deed hasn’t been reviewed by the town attorney or land use, but ~Land Use does not anticipate any problems once the deed goes to the ~attorney.
  • Dog Photo Contest: Group will open up photo gallery to all residents to encourage people to go to website by holding a contest for Best Dog in Costume in October. Fee of $30 to post pictures of dogs will be waived going forward.
  • Concert in the Park August 19th.  Volunteers offering food at the PRC Summer Concert. All food and beverages have been donated. Group charged $2 a hot dog and $1 per soda, and raised $253 in food and donations. Newtown Patch also covered the fundraiser.
  • Labor Day Parade: A special meeting will be held prior to this event to plan. Meeting date TBD
  • Dog Days of Summer Event: Discussion tabled for future meeting
